Works OK for me on local host

I’m using Gutengerg on a locally hosted site, one I keep for trying out ‘things’. I have few plugins installed on it.

I have borne in mind that Gutenberg is in beta when writing this.

Generally it runs without problem. The interface didn’t bother me much, certainly not to the extent of some of the others on here. I have Elementor installed on all my live sites as well as on localhost so my familiarity with that might have made my transition smoother.

In many ways it is similar to Elementor. I’m not sure how that will stand with the designers of the plugin. I accept that they take the risk, but we, and WP.org, want these people to continue to provide us with state of the art plugins, especially the likes of the crew who developed Elementor.

I can see the imperative. WP.com are probably losing customers to hosts with pagebuilders and need to compete. I would not dream to criticise their decision as they must think it is best for them.

I’m from way back. I remember the problems with 3.5. I changed to wysiwyg software and only came back with 3.9. I hope this is not going to be a repetition of those problems.

The potential is there, that much is clear. We should think of this as Part 1 of 3 I suppose.

Selfishly, I’m looking forward to the challenge of learning something new but I only run a few sites. If I had a portfolio, I might be a bit concerned.

So: not as good as Elementor overall, but I assume there’s a ‘yet’ in there. I also expect the beta to improve steadily. It had better.

One irritation. I used to be a printer. I studied Gutenberg at art college. The chap invented the modern world in many ways. I doubt this bit of software will do the same so some sense of humility might not have gone amiss.
