We can think of several ways to do this but looking at the Twenty Fourteen theme, we would probably solve this by hiding the existing link (using CSS) in “site-info” class then use the “twentyfourteen_credits” hook to generate a new link and text.

However, this would only work for that theme. In order to work with all themes, we’d have to use the correct hook (for example twentyfifteen_credits in Twenty Fifteen) depending on what theme was activated.

Can you not just put your own link in the “Footer Widget Area” sidebar using a Text widget?

We have added this functionality today to our other plugin (made for Twenty Seventeen only) …

Options for Twenty Seventeen

When you customise the theme to remove “Powered by WordPress” text, it replaces it with the content of the new “Site Info” Widget Area … if there are widgets in it yet.

Let us know if this is what you desire for Twenty Fourteen theme and we’ll add it to our “to do” list.

Already done it Andreso! Check the latest update. Works on all versions from Twenty Ten to Twenty Seventeen and makes use of the WordPress Theme Customizer.
