• So I just downloaded and installed Autoptimize on a multisite install using Avada along side w3tc. I disabled the minifying aspects of W3tc so I have no plugin conflicts there (that I can see). I also updated my php at the plugins recommendation just a few hours ago. I experienced brief downtime, but I assume that was based on the server updating and had nothing to do with the plugin. Anywhoo The plugin works super well and it looks like my pages are loading much much faster AND my google page speed test has gone up to 89.

    The page also appears to load fine on Chrome, Safari and Firefox, however when I run it through page speed test the image that renders as a preview has none of the css in there and it looks super whack. I’ve had a couple other people try out the site and cleared the cache a bunch of times to try and troubleshoot and make sure none of my users are seeing the same css-less version of the site and thus far no one has seen it. As long as no one ever see’s that version it’s not really a bother to me, but if someone gets hung on a page without any css it’ll be a huge bummer.

    TL;DR Site looks good when loaded, but google page speed preview image renders without CSS. Should I be concerned?

    Hi Jake;
    When I tried it the first time, it did not load successfully entirely, with an autoptimized CSS file (https://ecdivers.com/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/1/css/autoptimize_d114c32831fcc7a7bfcb713fc2bf3b9f.css) gone missing (404).

    When I refreshed everything rendered fine and the same CSS-file did exist. This is either an indication something is wrong or that you just emptied the AO-cache yourself.

    A test on webpagetest.org shows a correct thumbnail as well, cfr. https://www.webpagetest.org/result/160322_0Y_1324/ but does show what seems to be problems at webserver-level with some images taking “ages” to load.

    As soon as AO created the optimized CSS & JS in cache and the page is in W3TC’s page cache, it all is up to your webserver really, AO isn’t called upon any more. So not entirely sure what is happening, really …

    If you have additional info I’ll be happy to follow up on this!

    Frank,

    Thanks so much for your quick response.

    It seems like Autoptimize wasn’t playing nice with sometihng. I checked into my site no and again, and would get an intermittent error unable to access my site, but then a couple minutes later it was quick again. I’ve since deleted autoptomize and everything is working fine.

    I’m going to look into it further and try and see if I can get the plugin to play nice, because it really did make a significant difference when it was working. If I find out where the errors were coming from I’ll be sure to let you know.

    Best,

    weird stuff; as I wrote, as soon as the optimized JS/CSS is cached, AO doesn’t intervene any more …

    let me know if you do find something, maybe your PHP or Apache errorlog can help you identify the culprit?
