Works for me using WP 3.8.1 despite others reporting problems

I am using this in conjuction with Advanced Custom Fields plug-in and it seems to work fine. But I haven’t extensively tested yet. Would be improved if you could create a new post template via the dashboard instead of going onto the server, but no big deal.
