hi there, this plugin works amazingly well. But some posts pull in a low-res thumbnail, instead of the high res one. Any idea why?

    Hey @dominicdesouza,

    Thanks for using our plugin!
We basically run the import from the highest to lowest thumbnail resolution available. We check each one and if it’s missing, we skip to the next, in this order –

      maxres
      high
      medium
      default

I suppose this is something that can be fixed on your YouTube channel, but please do let me know if you think there’s still an issue with the plugin.

Thanks for that; I manually upload hi-res png files for thumbnails. Youtube does it’s own auto compression, maybe, but perhaps the max-res is too large? It’s hit-or-miss, and pulls in smaller resolutions like this; https://prnt.sc/p4FF51U7Pxzg

Perhaps some of these videos have different thumbnail size/ratio?
As mentioned above, we always pull the highest image quality possible in this order –

      max-res
      high
      medium
      default

Are you positive you don’t have any type of image optimization on the WP site itself?

Strange, I just upload a 16:9 image that’s 1920x1080px compressed png. Sometimes it works fine, like I said. Other times it pulls a smaller image with the bars. I run a compression plugin after images are imported to the media library. Does that help?

Hey, very sorry for the delay! I didn’t see your message till now.
I think the bars mostly have to do with the resolution/ratio?

The default ratio is 16:9 for the thumbnails. If you’re using a different ratio, they may crop or add padding around the image to make it fit that size.

This may be more related to YouTube’s side, as we just the get image from the API as-is, and if it’s manipulated, I suppose it’s on YouTube’s side.
