Works almost too well

  • I was given the unenviable task of performing some MASSIVE changes to our website, and I needed to be able to see how the new content would look in a LIVE environment, without allowing the public to see what I was working on.

    This plugin was used to hide the content from all but the administrative and editorial staff. No other staff, and no public visitors would be allowed to view the progress untill everything was complete.

    The plugin worked perfectly.

    After a week of round-the-clock renovations, the new site was ready to reveal to the public, so I deleted the restrictive rule and went live. Everything was perfect, until I tried to view the site in the second official language. IT WAS STILL LOCKED OUT!!

    It turns out this plugin has the ability to selectively hide content on multi-lingual sites, and I had forgotten to remove the “locks” from the translated site. My bad.

    Thanks for choosing to use Content Control and for taking the time to leave this review! I don’t think I would have thought to use this plugin for reviewing new content/changes in a live environment that way. Thanks for mentioning that!

    Frank, thank you for responding to my review. I realize you’re asking for suggestions based on my comment that it was a bit complex to use. My use-case scenario does not require that I continue to use this plugin (or at least not for a long while), so I won’t be revisiting the interface until the next time I need it. If I need it again and think of specific ideas of how to make it easier for me to use, I will let you know.
