• I’m just about to upload a client website from my localhost environment to their web server. Their domain is not yet active, but I have the IP address along with FTP access so everything should work as per normal just without the domain name.

When the domain DOES become active (next week), do I just log into the admin panel and change the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) from the IP address to the now-active domain name?

Actually, I just tried to enter the IP address in the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) settings fields, but WP gives me the error “The WordPress address you entered did not appear to be a valid URL. Please enter a valid URL.”. Any ideas on how I can get this uploaded and working without an active domain name?

If you’re on Windows, I’d suggest that you set up your hosts file to point to that IP address for that domain name for now to get it ready, and then when the domain name is set up and propegated everything will be working correctly with no need to change anything.
