For the past week, Broken Link Checker is reporting many links as broken with a 403 Error. When I click on the link in the blog article or at the list of broken links; the link works fine.

I, then, mark the link not broken.

Do I need to change a setting or is this an issue that needs correction?

Did you recently switch to HTTPS or anything like that? I had this same issue after switching to HTTPS across our site. We had to disable the basic http api in the link checker settings.

I had the same problem on 4 out of 20 HTTPS websites recently. Resolved by:

On each of the four websites, I tried running the ‘nuclear option’ for rechecking:

    1. Settings > Link checker
    2. Advanced tab: Forced recheck – Re-check all pages

This has cleared all the incorrectly reported broken links and resolved the issue. Could be just temporary but I’ll recheck again in a weeks time. So for now, I’m happy. ??
