• This plugin appeared wonderful until I published my “Contact Us” form created with it and immediately started receiving spam orginating from this form. I had to remove this plugin after the spam through it became unmanageable.

    Hi @cfc01,

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. I’m so sorry to hear that your experience was soiled by the presence of spam.

We have a couple of recommended options for spam protection. These are built into the form builder for quick access (see screenshot):

First, we have a built-in anti-spam protection feature which is enabled by default. This does not require any additional setup. When enabled in the form, it works in the background to protect your forms against spam. For more details about the anti-spam protection feature, please see our tutorial here.

Additionally, we have other spam prevention options in WPForms which we highly recommend to be paired with Anti-Spam Protection:

    1. Google’s free reCAPTCHA service: This is a very popular option with built-in integration. Our integration includes 3 versions you can choose between: a traditional checkbox, “invisible”, and v3. You can find details on all of these in our tutorial here.
    2. hCaptcha: This is a good option if you’d prefer not to sign up for Google’s reCAPTCHA service. Within your forms, hCaptcha will display a checkbox asking users to prove they’re human (much like Google’s v2 Checkbox reCAPTCHA). We have a detailed guide for setting up hCaptcha here.
    3. CloudFlare Turnstile: If you are interested in a privacy focussed invisible alternative that automatically chooses non-intrusive browser challenges based on client behavior, this option is for you. Please take a look at the following detailed guide for more details here.
    4. Our Custom Captcha addon: If you’d prefer to choose the question(s) your visitors must answer, the Custom Captcha is a good option. This addon is available with all of our paid licenses, and you can find all the details here.
    5. Akismet Anti-Spam Protection: Akismet is one of the top anti-spam protection plugins on www.remarpro.com. If you have this plugin set up on your site, you can easily integrate it into your forms. Please see this guide on how to set up Akismet and enable
      it to your forms.
    6. Country restrictions filter: This is an effective option if you’d like to allow or deny form submissions from specific countries. We have a detailed guide for settings this up.
    7. Keyword restrictions filter: Same as above you can toggle this option to effectively block any form submissions that contain specific keywords. We have a detailed guide for settings this up here.
    8. Block or allow specific email addresses: Using our Allowlist/Denylist feature, you can restrict or allow specific email addresses that can be used to submit your forms. We have a detailed tutorial for setting this up here.

While we completely understand that you decided to move on because of this, it would mean a lot to us if you gave those a try, and if you have any other possible suggestions that we could use to improve our spam prevention efforts, we would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you, and have a great one.
