Problem: It was working for about a week, then after I checked after the weekend, my sites were half busted due to a php error:

Maximum execution time of 10 seconds exceeded in
    /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/includes/feed-them-functions.php on line 1982

So I went in and turned on the 500 error setting, which didn’t help at all.
So then I increased max execution time on the server to 30s.
Now when I have the plugin on it takes a few MINUTES to load and I get a bunch of warnings and the plugin message saying to change the post limit (which doesn’t help):

Warning : Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in
    /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/feeds/facebook/facebook-feed.php on line 121

Please go to the Facebook Options page of our plugin and look for the “Change Post Limit” option and add the number 7 or more. You can also hide this notice on the Facebook Options page if you want.
If you are trying to add a Personal Facebook feed and you are seeing this message too, please note: Personal Facebook Accounts generally do not work with our plugin.

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/feeds/facebook/facebook-feed.php on line 235

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/feeds/facebook/facebook-feed.php on line 1249

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/feeds/facebook/facebook-feed.php on line 439

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/elds/public_html/ru.elds.org/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/feeds/facebook/facebook-feed.php on line 444

Its just really strange because it was working fine for about a week. Thoughts?

Thanks so much for all the info and using our plugin. And yes, I’m pretty sure the fix here is checking the option on the settings page that says “Fix Internal Server Error.” Give that a shot and let me know how it works out.

As I said in my original post, I tried that
“So I went in and turned on the 500 error setting, which didn’t help at all.”

Ah I thought the 500 setting was something you set on your server, my bad. Strange, what happens if you just use the name of your facebook account name Mormon.RF instead of the id number. If it still throws an error maybe check with your host and see if they have any insight on the issue. Sometimes webserver will limit the amount of outbound calls your server makes also causing this strange conflicting error.

Changing the facebook page id didn’t help at all.

I can tell you that our sites that are not in a multisite seem to be working fine with the plugin, its just our multisites that are having this issue. And for whatever reason, when the plugin is enabled, the pages suddenly take multiple minutes to load (up from 10 seconds with the plugin off). No indication of any errors in the error log.

We don’t have any sort of request or bandwidth limits with our host. I also have root access.

Question: what exactly does the 500 error setting do? (I’m a developer so you can get a little technical with me). Just wondering to maybe help me debug.

    (@slickremix)

Well shoot. That is odd it only behaves like that with multisite. We use multi curl and sometimes that does not seem to behave well on some servers, so if that struggles then we switch it to a single curl loop if you check that 500 error option.

Did you manage to figure anything out here?

No, but its mysteriously and without explanation working again *shrug*
