• After upgrading to ReCaptcha3 I started getting spam user registrations — slowly at first but more and more till I was getting over 80 a day. Easy to spot because there was no name, just a user ID and email. The real registrations from the front end all had a name, which I require. Apparently ReCaptcha3 works by analyzing browsing patterns to differentiate between humans and bots… which is why it doesn’t work so well on the wp-admin page because there’s no browsing involved to get there, so not much data to look at. Literally the second I activated the plugin, all those fake registrations stopped. And it’s so simple and light! No checking IPs against spammer databases, no complicated security settings to tweak and test… just replace wp-admin with the phrase of your choice and you’re done! Love it.
