Work with variable products? Omit days?

Hi,
I have looked through the documentation but I don’t see the answer to these 2 questions.

Will it work if I insert the shortcode into a WooCommerce variable product? I tried a different plugin that worked perfectly, except for variable products it just showed the shortcode instead of the output.

Can I leave off the day part of the timer? I only want to make 24 hour countdowns, so the day part is not required.
