    Hello,

I have a client who had set up a site using an out-of-the-box theme that uses the Customizer. We want to create a child theme, but would like to be able to export the settings from the parent and then import them into the child. However, when I do an import into the child, I get an error that says:

“Error importing settings! The settings you uploaded are not for the current theme.”

Is there a way to get this to work?

  • The Customizer is used on the parent theme, so you may need to activate the parent theme, import your settings, then activate the child theme, if I understand what you’re asking. But you can’t import the settings for a parent theme’s Customizer settings directly into any child theme. The child theme is only a partial theme containing only files that override the parent’s, along with a style.css file.

I see, thanks for the explanation.

I have used this plugin several times to transfer Customizer settings from a parent theme to a child theme.

I just exported the settings from a Themify parent theme and then imported them into the child theme and it seems to have worked perfectly. Thank you!

I can confirm it worked for a child theme (?The Newswire?).
