Work on domain without getting rid of current live site?

  • Hi!

    I am hoping to create a wordpress site based on one currently made in Dreamweaver, but before I do that, I want to be able to work on the wordpress site without getting rid of the current live site at the same domain. Is there any way to work on the same domain but not have it override the current site? The domain is hosted with GoDaddy.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Sure. You can upload the zip file of the latest WordPress into the root folder of the current site, then unzip it right there and you will have the beginning of dreamsite.com/wordpress. But before you go there and complete the installation, I would suggest spending just a little time setting up a database manually and making your own wp-config.php file for the new site to help keep everything well-organized for later on.
