• Hey All,

I got my first junior development job with WordPress which I am starting in February. However I havn’t really worked with WordPress much before (which I guess sounds odd).

Anyhow I am trying to get my head around the best workflow development (I guess everyone uses different approaches or software but I am guessing there some commonality). So I was just after a bit of discussion / and or input from folks if that is ok?

From what I can see, themes and plugin customization seem to be the things that a developer would alter, and the wp-content directory is where the majority of the media used is stored (so I guess wouldn’t get touched too much). I guess things like wp-config.php is where the database settings and other stuff is stored. Am I correct in thinking that the database stores both things like posts and pages and also wordpress settings like site_urls and theme settings?

I read this page and from what I understood (correct me if I am wrong), is that folks use GIT to control the versions of just plugins and themes? Would people use it for the database as well?

Also do folks have any recommendations for how to move sites between dev, staging and production and also how they would recommend pulling it altogether?

Apologies if I am over thinking all of this, I am just trying to get ahead of the game a little bit…

    Thanks again,

    Mark.

I’m sorry, this is not for these forums.

    Work Flow Developments – discussion

These are support forums meaning “I have a problem with X or Y or Z” and these are intentionally not discussion forums or anyone’s blog.

Discussion topics have resulted in an AMAZING amount of spam and well, people looking to promote themselves. Yeah, that’s spam too but a different kind.

If you tried something with WordPress, be it an add-on such as a plugin or theme, be it a PHP or js function, then this is the correct place to post and seek help.

If you want to have an open discussion then not so much. Please try a different site. I am not associated with these two but here are some alternatives.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/ (The got the WordPress capital P wrong but it would Break All The Things to fix it on Reddit).

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/advancedwp/

I am not a moderator on either of those sites and they have their own rules but I suggest you try one of those instead.
