WordPressPOT out of (CVS) control?

  • I started translatin g the POT file during the betaperiod of 1.2. Now, about 1 month since I did anything I wanted to continue, so I went to the Wiki and found the latest version.
    The fact that the latest ersion of 1.2 WordPressPOT was so different from the one I had used before, was a surprise, though fully acceptable.
    But how do I find the differences? Either you must incorporate the POT file into the CVS so we can use diff on it there, or you must find a consistant method for ordering the content of it. As it is I must use so much time spotting the differences …

  • Use poedit or a similar tool. Changes in the POT will be merged into your PO and differences will be marked.

    Thanks but why do you think I do not use poedit? If I could easily do that I would. But for a thing like WP, which prides itself with a 5 minues install I do not want to be needing to set up linux or Fink or to build poedit (on OSX) in order to get happy …
    Is there any reason at all not include POT in CVS? After all, that is where it belongs.

    Ok, I found out to use the diff of the WIKI, that will help me a bit one the way. Still I think it belong in the CVS, in the language folder, don’t you think?

    Err, WP and the Gettext framework have nothing in common. Gettext is not meant to be used by lambda users, and yes, you should use the proper tools (like poEdit and such) when translating strings. I don’t know of OS X alternative, but I’m pretty sure you don’t have to install Linux, since you already use a Unix box ??
