I am building a professional site for a client using WordPress and I was wondering whether people would recommend hosting with a third party or using WordPress.com as a host?

Generally in the past I have hosted on my own servers but they want independence once the project has finished. Also it would be nice to have a ‘perfect’ server set-up so all updates work correctly etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Completely depends on their end goals.

You can obviously sign them up on .COM, buy a domain and be good. — How much development are you doing? Cuz you can’t do much on .COM

Will they need themes not offered on .COM? Will they ever need a plugin? Will they ever need any type of ecommerce?

Things like that are important…. ,COM is much easier for your client probably … at first. BUt it has many limitations, those need to be weighed.

Thanks for the answer. I will be building a custom theme and possibly some custom pages. I will also be using a number of downloaded plugins. There will be future alterations to theme and plugins and custom elements as the site develops.

I’ll have a read of that page now.

    Thanks again.

In that case, you need .org – .com doesn’t allow you to install plugins or themes, period.

Brilliant. Thanks for all your help.

    Howdy.
How does one separate the borders so they appear to be floating? completely off topic.

    completely off topic

And thus, worthy of a fresh topic!
One topic per thread keeps everything nice and orderly.

While you are planning to start your new thread, please consider where to post it. Your question seems more relevant in the Themes section. Also please consider adding more info when you make your thread – perhaps include a link to your site, and your active theme.
