I’ve tried to relate wordpress.com stats on my self hosted site to a new api key. After doing so I click on the button below ‘add new blog to my account’, which gives the error message ‘Error from last API Key attempt: Missing API Key’ in return. When I therefore try to go back to the old api key, I get the same error message.

From what I understand of this, wordpress.com stats within a self hosted website can only be coupled to the api key of 1 wordpress.com account. Using a new api key isn’t possible, but once you’ve tried doing so, you also can’t go back.

I now therefore am at a complete loss concerning how to solve this. Anyone more ideas?

Update: one possible fix (adding the new user (me) to the wordpress.com account that holds the api key that is related to the self hosted wordpress site, giving me access to the wp stats plugin, removing this access for the admin) didn’t work.

This is depressing. The relation between the api key from the wp.com account and the wpstats-plugin is a: bloody vague and b: very troublesome to work with. Insights are very much appreciated!

To whom it may concern: this is not an issue that can be solved by your own WordPress installation, but by the support crew of wordpress.com. Contact them, explain the problem, and they’ll make sure that the proper accounts are connected to the proper api keys. They solved my problem within 2 days, which I think is stunning.

Hi, what do you mean contact them? On the contact option they say to search in the frums because they can’t answer every question. I am having the same problem, I have a self-hosted blog and would like to install the stat plugin. I have also an wordpress.com blog with the same name that’s is not being used, can I use its API on my self-hosted blog?

    Thanks
