• So it’s been a while since I logged in, but I clearly remember my username and password (and I keep a written log of ALL my usernames and passwords, so I’d know if I changed them).

When I try to log in, I get an error message saying my username isn’t valid! Since my username is visible on all of my blog posts, surely this can’t be possible?

How can I log in when WordPress won’t take my username? I need to update this blog RIGHT AWAY. (I am not especially tech-savvy, so I can’t very well hack into my own account. The “password reset” instructions are, obviously, no help.)

  • You will need to access your database directly to check if your username has been changed.

Via your hosting control panel you should have access to a tool called phpMyAdmin. If you do you will be able to access your database tables via your browser. Look for a table called wp_usermeta and browse the meta_value column for your username.

I’ve only ever logged in via WordPress. Also, no one else has access to this account, so my username can’t have changed.

no one else has access to this account,

Unless your site has been hacked or your database damaged. Check your username in your database.

I don’t have a database, just the blog.

You do have a database. WordPress is a database driven web application.

Is it possible you’re talking about a wordpress.com account?
