Error 500 (Internal Server Error) can mean a lot of things, but let’s figure this one out from here…

    1. When did it start?
    2. Before this error happened, what was the last thing you did on your website?

    Regards,
    Andre

Andre, not sure… it was working couple weeks ago and I haven’t done anything to it… the company its hosted with sold to another company a few months ago and all was working but now it isn’t.

the hosting is saying it has plugin problems with WordPress but I can’t get into my WordPress account at all….

This is concerning… “the company its hosted with sold to another company?“. You may want to consider a new host. Anyway, if I understand correctly, your site has been offline for a couple of weeks?

Do you have a full website and database backup available? Your host might also have one as a good host will/should. This would be my first suggestion, is to try restoring your website from a backup. However, if you don’t have one, are you able to access Your website files and download them, including if possible, your site’s database?

Does your website have a lot of content already, including posts, comments, pages, and images (media)?

I think they have the FTP file of the site at domain.com

what hosting do you recommend ?

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

I’m guessing no website backup? Do you know if you have access to your website files using FTP? Also, logging into your host’s control panel and going to the phpmyadmin and “exporting” your WordPress site’s database? If you’ve never done that before, check to see if their hosting documentation has this information.

First try and contact their support and let them know (if again) about your website and see if they can do a restore from their end.

Ultimately, I’d like to see you get your website back with the current host–then later consider an alternate host. There are tons of hosting company’s out there, each with a price-point for everyone’s budget. For me, I use WHC (Web Hosting Canada), but in the past I’ve also used Rochen hosting. I know there is Bluehost, hostinger, dreamhost, siteground, and more. I’ve personally never used these ones, so it’s hard for me to say yes or no; I can only recommend the ones I’ve used over the years.

no back up but I think I can get it from the hosting…they will give me FTP….they want me

to pay $60 to get it though…. thank you for sharing your info… I will probably have to pay them to unlock all…. have you heard of any other scams like this happening with hosting co?

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

They want you to pay for that? I definitely recommend finding a different host. I also don’t recommend paying them money to give FTP access.

When you go to log into your website, does the login page (with the login form) show, or is this not showing due to the error?

I forgot to ask: When you originally set up your hosting, did you get any kind of login information for FTP login? Usually this is included in an email which also includes hosting login details.

    (@trishscheller)

yes they want me to pay $60 … they don’t offer free tech support. I think there’s a problem with my WordPress though… I can’t login at all … it has been removed it seems. I can’t reset with them because they want a PIN number I don’t have to prove it’s me even tho they send me emails daily about plugins being updated…. So I must be in their system and they recognize me that way. Is the website

I just went to your login page for your website. It appears to be active. Try this: Go to your login page and click on the Lost Your Password text link. That should send you a password reset to your email that is associated with your website. See if this works and if you can log in. If you can get into your WP admin area, I have a few options for you but don’t log out yet.

    (@trishscheller)

I did try that and it didn’t recognize my email address

so I created another WordPress with that email and tried to fill out a form for the lost one but they wanted a PIN number which I don’t have..

    I’ll try again

now it isn’t recognizing that email again

it says: User does not exist.?Would you like to

what did you type in to access it?

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

Was your website new and still being built or was it existing with lots of content? Would it be a major loss if you had to start over?

The other thing I wanted to ask is if you have access to your web hosting control panel and when logged in, do you have access to your website files from there? Usually web hosts have Cpanel to manage all aspects of a website–things like databases, emails, file management, SSL, PHP settings, etc.

    (@andre-jutras)

“what did you type in to access it?” You mean where did I go to see the login page?
