    Hi there,

I did some tests and from what I have seen the MailChimp checkbox in the user profile does not what I would think it does.

If I see such a checkbox, I would assume …
    1. that it tells me about the actual status if a user is subscribed or not
→ I don’t think this is possible, as there is no “sync back to the shop”. The sync from MailChimp is a oneway sync

    2. that I can check/uncheck it in the WordPress backend (or as a shopper if I log in to the shop and edit the user profile)
    → both do not work

I had the idea that perhaps this checkbox does not show the current subsribe-status but is only internal for the MailChimp sync. Perhaps it tells the sync “those are the next users you need to sync and subscribe”

But that would mean that after a successful sync all of the checkboxes must be unchecked.

Interestingly, I could see that some (not all) users did get unchecked (in the WordPress user profile at the section MailChimp) after a sync.

I can’t tell anymore if it was a sync / resync or uninstall/reinstall. I am sure those are performed completely differently.

    So here comes my question:
What does this checkbox tell us? When is it checked and when is it unchecked?

    Thanks in advance!

@markussss one of the upgrades that has been made to the plugin recently was to add “subscription webhooks” to your list / store, when a user subscribes or unsubscribes from the list, we will keep this “checkbox” in sync.

Now, the difference is – “unchecked” does not mean “unsubscribed”… it actually means “transactional”. In order to officially unsubscribe, the customer would have to click on a link from an email to explicitly unsubscribe.

We gave this addition to the user profile for cases like this where the store owner needed to be able to change these statuses in cases like this.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi @ryanhungate

some time passed, so I am not that deeply involved in this case anymore. I think the chaos still persists and the store owner week by week manually cleaned up what happened because of one of the updates

I honestly think, it’s all a bit confusing and either needs good communication/documentation or must work reliably out of the box.

There were a lot of issues, lots of troubleshooting, testing, analyzing.

I understand that sync is not easy, especially when people have development systems and suddenly the sync is also enabled there. Also, I see it’s difficult to understand the difference in sync when just normally working with it, when reconnecting, uninstalling/reinstalling the plugin, etc.

All of this is a huge puzzle once something goes down the wrong way

I figured out at some point that checking/unchecking as a customer (logged in) or as a shop owner (user backend) does make a difference in MailChimp as well, it only takes a few minutes

As I said, a bit of chaos and unreliability here, which makes it really difficult once you have a problem.

I hope you can improve this in the future

    best regards
    Markus
