wordpress url get deeplink

hey people,

i have checked the codex, but havn’t found a solution for my problem.
lets say, i have an url like
mysite.com/foo/bar

is there a build-in function, to extract only foo and bar?
I dont like the attempt to check with substr or the last occurence of a slash …
