WordPress Upgrade Failed, no content can be added or plugins deactivate.

    Hi,

    I recently tried to upgrade a MU installation from 3.5.2 to 3.6 and at first it seemed to work ok. I got half of the 3.6 page.

    I then tried to run upgrade network but it still said to update to wp 3.6

    Tried it and now it would hang at Downloading WordPress from www.remarpro.com….. (I copied the download file refferenced on the DL screen and it was fine and well below my memory limit)

    Now the weird part: I can log in, all the sites and plugins work fine, but I cannot change any setting or add any pages or plugins. If I try that I get a 500 server error….

    I am running a dedicated server so I don’t have any memory limits.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated…

    Update: The symptoms indicate that I am unable to write to the database…

    Solution:
    I performed a manual install.

    • Deleted wp-admin and wp-includes
    • Uploaded the new ones from the 3.6 version I got off wordpres.org
    • Overwrote all files within the wordpress top directory
    • Logged in with SSH as root and removed a newline from the wp-config.php file

    I can’t believe that bastard of a newline almost made me purge my network… Well hope my experience can help someone else…
