• I’ve got a WordPress website running on an IIS server, and I’m having a problem where the “New WordPress Update Available” message keeps appearing even though I literally just installed the update.

I tried to do an automatic update, but it kept getting stuck on “Verifying unpacked files”. So I did a manual update instead. But when I logged in after the manual update, the “New WordPress Update Available” message was still appearing. Is it possible a file isn’t being copied over in the manual update? Is it just a bug in 4.5.2?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

There are chances that the Manual Update was not completed successfully and that is a reason you might be getting this message.

Please ensure that you have followed all the steps of Manual Update.

I ran through all of those steps for the manual update. I even did it twice because I still got the message afterwards, so I attempted it again. The message still appears.

Any other ideas, anyone? Surely I’m not the only one who has encountered this issue.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins.
    – switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme.

Yes, I have tried. It still did not work.

What’s really confusing, though, is that when I visited this link (https://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php, adapted for my website’s own info, of course), it said that my code was all up to date, and that I didn’t need to install anything else. So now I’m not sure if the website has been updated, and the message is just stuck, or if it still having trouble.

    Thanks!
