    Hi,

I have WordPress on version 6.3.2, but in the Updates tab I am getting the prompt to update to version 5.9.3 ( See screenshot: https://ibb.co/4ffgKbm )

How would this be possible? To update to a previous version.
I absent mindedly clicked on the update and broke the site with the previous version. ( But had backup and restored the site)
    Has this happened anywhere else?
    Thanks.

    Hi @thefredjacobs,

Updates can fail for numerous reasons, but usually re-running the updates would solve the issues. To see what causes this issue on your website, please check the steps below one by one:

    • You can?enable debugging to see detailed information about errors.
    • Update WordPress?manually by downloading the?latest version of WordPress?and replacing the wp-includes directory with a fresh copy.
    • Check for any conflicts within your themes and plugins by deactivating/deleting and reactivating/reinstalling them again, checking them one by one.
    • Check your Site health (WP admin dashboard > Tools > Site Health) to discover any possible issues.

After all, if the issue still persists, it is best if you contact your web hosting company. Since they have access to all the settings and logs, they should be able to figure out the root of the error and the solution for it.

    Hope it helps!

It’s not uncommon for WordPress to prompt you to update to the latest version, but it’s unusual to suggest an older version.?This could be due to a plugin conflict or a glitch in the WordPress core.

It’s possible to downgrade to a previous version of WordPress using a plugin. However, it’s generally not recommended to do so, as it may cause compatibility issues with your plugins and themes.?

Regarding your second question, I’m unaware of similar situations where WordPress prompted a user to update to an older version. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check the update notification before proceeding with the update.

If this is still a concern, you can

    • Clear your WordPress cache and cookies.
    • Check for any errors in your WordPress logs, or contact your hosting provider for further assistance.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I just noticed the owner of the site has the following plugin activated:

WP Downgrade | Specific Core Version

That caused the prompt for a downgrade.

    Cheers.

Hi, Just a quick thank you. I’ve been looking for this answer for quite a while. Same issue. Same plug-in was active.
