I have now experienced a problem with many of my websites that I cannot seem to figure out. I like using Safari, but have a real issue with it.

Whenever I have built a site (in WordPress, styling various themes) if I add SSL and make everything https, I suddenly experience issues from my Safari browser.

It’s difficult to demonstrate because sometimes the page loads fine, no problem. But other times it sits and tries to connect for a long period of time. Refreshing doesn’t work. It needs to go through its long timeout process before I finally get a message that reads:

    “Safari Can’t Open the Page
Safari can’t open the page “…” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.”

After I finally get this page, I can refresh and the page will 100% load the next time.

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if it were just my computer, I can use Chrome no problem, but I have cleared my history, cache, cookies a million times.

I’m not convinced it is just my computer, because I have seen it happen on another Safari browser, however that person had also logged in and edited the site at some point, so maybe that has something to do with it? But even if that’s the case, it’s still a problem, as some of our sites use Buddypress, so there are lots of people logging in, and it’s guaranteed that a portion of them use Safari.

It doesn’t matter whether SSL was on from the beginning or added later. Either way, the problem exists and only goes away by removing the SSL and switching everything back to http.

For a long time I thought it was related to WooCommerce, since it happened to so many WooCommerce sites, but I have just made a new SSL site with no e-commerce portion at all, but still getting the issue randomly. (Again, sometimes it seems fine).

I host all of the sites with Siteground, if that’s helpful?

I seriously cannot believe I am the only person experiencing these issues, but I cannot find any info about it other than a few unanswered threads. It’s time this problem was solved!!!

Any insight anyone could provide would be helpful. I know it’s difficult without being able to test, but it literally never seems to happen when I try to show anyone anyways… Thank you.

They’re automatically closed after a year, so that should be long enough. Then again this is Safari, which Apple seems slow to fix unless it can be bundled with a new major OS X version, which is pretty much why I switched to Firefox.

It looks like Siteground has fixed the issue on their end! Thank you everyone.

Hi, I have the same problem, but I’m not with Siteground. How did you solve it?

    Thanks in advance

Sorry, I don’t know. It really was a Siteground issue. They admitted it but they didn’t say what the exact cause was. I guess its possible that whoever you host with has the same issue with their Ssl setups? Wish I knew more. Good luck.
