I can only find threads on this topic from 2 years ago, so I’m starting fresh.

WordPress has been working perfectly until a few days ago. Now it will sporadically stop responding. It happens more frequently when navigating on the admin side, but also happens on the front end. I can usually click on 2 or 3 links with no problem, but eventually it will stop responding. I’ve noticed the way to “correct” the issue is to stop the page from loading, and to try and reload it in the browser. Usually just a few tries will work, and once the page reloads, it is normal again for about 2 to 3 more clicks. If I don’t stop the page from loading when it is not responsive, it will eventually give me the “Lost Connection” error message.

Has anyone else had this issue? Godaddy says that they cannot reproduce it.

  • It sounds like you are on shared hosting, and either your site or some other site on your server is getting enough traffic that it’s slowing down the server response time.

Thanks…I’m definitely on shared hosting. But, I’ve since isolated this to a routing issue, so will respond here incase it is helpful to anyone in the future. I ran some traceroutes from my location (which is in Europe) to the server, and definitely saw some latency/dropped packets. I wasn’t convinced however, but then I installed a freebie VPN so that allowed me to first to connect to a server in the US, which obviously changed the route from “me” to the server and BOOM…works fine.

Thus, if any future reader is getting the same symptoms it is likely a routing issue, in my case a peering issue, between any of the two carriers between my location in Europe and the server location in CA. (I know..I am thinking about migrating!)

    Cheers.
