WordPress Slow as Molasses

    I am developing on a local server (Apache 2.2). Non-WP web pages load immediately, but WP pages take 20 seconds or more.

    Another problem which I don’t think is related is I also can’t update to WP version 4.1 because I get a Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\file path/webpages\wp-htmlkoala\wp-admin\includes\file.php on line 650.

    I don’t even know where to begin to look for the first problem. I did install a new version of MySql (5.6) which I wish I hadn’t done as I don’t like the GUI configuration tool and it’s lag time is ugly too. It’s configured to run just as a database server (no other apps) so it uses the minimum resources possible.

    Where should I start looking for the problem?

    Update WordPress manually. Below are the steps-

    1. Download the latest WordpPress zip file and unzip that file.
    2. Deactivate plugins.
    3. Delete the old wp-includes and wp-admin folder and upload the new wp-includes and wp-admin folders.
    4. Do NOT delete your existing wp-content folder just Upload the individual files from the new wp-content folder to your existing wp-content folder, overwriting existing files.
    5. Upload all new loose files from the root directory of the new version to your existing wordpress root directory.
    6. Don’t do any changes in wp-config.php file.

    I’ve updated WP and I still have the same problem. Login, pages load slower than molasses. No good, can’t work like that.

    Rather than spend hours, days, or weeks trying to find out why WP loads so slowly I just uninstalled my version of Apache and the program stack under it (PHP, MySql) installed a WAMP stack and then installed the newest version of WP. Everything is now copasetic.
