WordPress sites loading very slow (40 sec)

Hello! I have some WordPress sites on a webhost and 8 of them are loading terribly slow (30-40 seconds), while the biggest one that has a ton of plugins loads ok. They are all hosted on the same server/ same IP. When I install a new blog, it will work perfectly, but the old installs are slow. UptimeDoctor (a monitoring service) is giving me Timeout was reached and couldn’t connect to my sites since I started using it two days ago.
Some of them have https, some don’t. They all use various themes. I opened a ticket, but I’m almost sure the webhost will blame it on the wordpress install (bad theme/plugins) and I’ll have to solve it myself.
So… do you have any idea what went wrong with my sites? Thank you very much!
