• This is my first question on this forum since I have been using wordpress for my blog website.

This issue arise after the recent update of WordPress 4.0.1. As my website was running smooth with WP 4.0 and recently attempted to update automatically with an email notification which informed me that the my website has been updated to 4.0.1 successfully. To check that I just visited my website which took longer than usual and found in the admin dashboard an error saying that automatic update attempt was failed and I need to try again. Once again I hit the Update button but it failed again and still was still taking longer.

NOTE: there was no .maintenance file on the wordpress root directory.

Then I followed the manual process via uploading the new wordpress files/directories and visiting /wp-admin/ just took me to the admin console without upgrading database. So I am not sure if the new version 4.0.1 needs the database upgrade or not. But I am still stuck with slow speed of my website.

To check if the issue is on host, I have tried with a new installation of wordpress 4.0.1 in a subfolder of my website and it worked flawlessly.

I really think the issue has been something with the automatic update of the website.

Can anyone help me to fix the issue?

    Thanks in advance…
    Best regards

  • I am trying to find it but there is a post around here somewhere about WP having issues when updating to 4.0.1 and files would be missing after on rare occasions.

You should search for it. I will post when/if I find it as well.

    The things I had done…
    – Deactivate all of your plugins
    – Clear browser’s cache and cookies

    Issue didn’t resolve.

    Then tried
    – Switching the theme

    Worked!
The website now loads as usual. Working to find a fix for my theme. But now it’s a really good feel of finding the problem.
