• I just got started using WP and think I screwed up my site. I just uploaded the site and a new theme. It was looking good. Then I went in to settings(I think) and where it asked for two different URL’s. Something about if you are not wanting to use your home page for you blog or something. I can’t get back to it to change it. Here is what I did. I had my site uploaded to my domain and then I also created a WP blog. In the site admin I put the blog address as the home page URL. Ok, now this totally screwed it up and I can not get back to my site. All graphics have been lost. When I go to log into the admin page, it takes me to my blog and not to my site. What do I need to do?

This is my error message when I go to login

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENDIF in /home/jcn8580/public_html/affiliatesupport/wp-content/themes/talian-10/404.php on line 11

That is a PHP syntax error (PHP is the language that WordPress is written in). That usually means there is a misplaced quote or semi-colon somewhere, regardless of the exact error message. Since it is saying it is in the 404.php page of the italian-10 theme, its a problem with that theme. Get a fresh copy of the theme and see if that fixes it.

With the part about asking which page you wanted to use, i’m assuming you are talking about whether you want to use your latest blog posts or a static page. Generally, if you want your blog posts to show up on the front page, you want to select the Latest blog posts option. It’s under Settings, then Reading. That, however, shouldn’t have anything to do with the PHP syntax error.

Let me know how it turns out.

I deleted the theme through my ftp program and then reinstalled it. Still was not working for me.

Here is the problem. When I type in https://affiliatesupport.com there is no theme present, just text. Then when I go to login it takes me to this page: https://affiliatesupportorg.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

I can’t login to my site URL because it is redirecting to the WP blog. In other words I can’t get into my WP website.

    I’m Stuck.

whoa, why the heck is it trying to re-direct to a WordPress.com hosted blog of yours?
affiliatesupport.com is where you want the blog, correct?

I think you may have added another blog you were running at the https://affiliatesupportorg.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ address somewhere in the settings by accident. Either that or did you setup a 301 re-direct somehow in your site.

No, I changed it by accident in the settings to my blog address and now i don’t know how to get back to my admin page for affiliatesupport.org

Am I going to have to delete all of my files and reload WP to my site?

This is NOT windows. You fix problems by fixing them, NOT by reinstalling.

    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

Follow that tutorial to put the values back to what they should be — and word to the unwise, dont change things just to change them, figure out what they do first. You dont accidentally change that, in order to change that you have to type, and hit a button. Thats not done accidentally — the result is whats accidental.

I feel like I’ve been given 20 lashes by my teacher. ?? Your fix was right on the money. My site and theme are back up like they should be. I learned a valuable lesson. Hire someone to build my site for me. If I can do that much damage in the admin panel with a few keystrokes, imagine what I could do in the phpmyadmin section ?? – I mean by accident of course.

Thanks again for the advice and lashing

This is not user negligence, I just had the same exact problem, and it’s because the settings page on the new wordpress doesn’t explain things clearly and makes it too easy to make accidental changes!

I never had this issue before, only with the new version now.

And my problem is, I have no access to PHPMyAdmin!
Wordpress was installed by a 3rd party to one of my clients and now I’m stuck with a non-working wordpress installation that I can’t login to, because it redirects to the URL that was inputted in the settings.

Thanks WordPress! Thanks for f*cking up the user interface by fixing what wasn’t broken!
How the hell am I going to fix this now? The stupid 3rd party charged $65 to my client just for the wordpress installation on their servers.
