• Afternoon all,

I have a bit of a quandary that is driving me insane!!

We have several WordPress based sites running on our server now and all seem to be perfectly accessible. Except for a number of individual’s in the Auckland region who can’t seem to access our pages.

Apparently the page loads for 3 – 4 minutes, then stops. The user may be left with a vanilla version of the site (indicating to me incomplete loading of the page), or a page not found error.

    Current examples are :

    https://www.pice.co.nz
    https://www.speedmachine.co.nz

For most people in Auckland it is absolutely fine. However, a certain number simply cannot access either of these sites.

I’m struggling to think of what questions to ask them, what action to take, or what to do in general. Any assistance, in any direction, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all,
    Mike

  • well, neither want to load for me and i am NOT in aukland

    its not a wordpress issue.

Normal networking rules appear. check the upstream link, ping it…are all hops working. is the DNS set up correctly… any kind of redirection taking place, etc..

    What about these other sites?

    Can you reach these?

    https://www.nzki.co.nz
    https://www.4mercs.co.nz
    https://www.kiwifotos.co.nz

Thank you for your prompt reply.

    1. yes easily
    2. yes but slow
    3. yes but slow

2 and 3 look like its a server issue to me.

fwiw, i tried the first 2 “issue” sites and they both FINALLY loaded, though they were painstakingly slow loads. In fact the pages are both continuing to load while I sit on them.

I’m wondering if it’s being caused by the “Storm Worm”.

I speculated on this on my blog when I had a similar problem on Friday, and noticed that an unusual number of Internet routers were not doing well.

Of course, these issues may not have a direct correlation — but, then again, they very well may.

    Thanks all for your input.

Thanks Whooami for looking at those sites for us.

Diane, it could possibly be the storm worm. However, I think the problem was around prior to it’s conception. Also, the site is hosted locally as are the people attempting to access it.

The reason we thought it was a WordPress issue was that when asked to test the list of sites you have Whooami, the report from the client was instantaneous on all but the WordPress.

I didn’t understand it myself but assumed it must be a WordPress issue based on these results.

I’m having trouble with https://www.pice.co.nz/ and I’m not located anywhere in New Zealand. Validating pice produces 11 errors, so perhaps you should fix that first?

    Thankz pizdin_dim.

Sorted those out, at least for the home page. One plugin and some user content causing the issue.

My biggest problem is testing, I can’t emulate (from where I am) the problems people are having.

I’m going to run on the assumption it may be a server problem at this point. I may optimise WordPress down the track and see how that goes.

Thank you all for your assistance. If you hear / think of anything please let me know.

    Thanks again,
    Mike
