    I’m using a child theme but WordPress is implying that I’m not.

    I’m using the Neighborhood theme by Swift Themes and I’ve left a message on their boards. I created and am using a child theme for this theme but in the updates screen I’m seeing the message:

    Please Note: Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost. Please consider using child themes for modifications.

    Any ideas why I’m seeing this?

    Can you please post a link to your site? It should be easy to determine from examining it if you are using a child theme. And this is a child theme that you’ve created yourself, or by someone else?

    this is a generic WordPress warning for theme updates, which gets printed without the check for child themes.

    The site is msstoked.com

    I’ve just never seen this message before.

    You are, in fact, using a child theme, because your site is using two different theme directories (neighborhood and neighborhood-child), and I see the following links to the style.css files:

    <link rel='stylesheet' id='neighborhood-parent-style-css'  href='https://msstoked.com/wp-content/themes/neighborhood/style.css?ver=4.5.4' type='text/css' media='all' />
    <link rel='stylesheet' id='main-css-css'  href='https://msstoked.com/wp-content/themes/neighborhood-child/style.css' type='text/css' media='all' />

    As @alchymyth mentioned, the message that you are seeing is a generic message on that particular screen. Some people have multiple themes installed, so updating any of them would mean any change to those theme files would be lost after the update.
