    Hello @foxglove16,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. It looks like the fatal error is related to memory exhaustion. The error message indicates that the site tried to allocate more memory than the PHP memory limit allows.

To help us better understand and address the error, could you please provide a bit more context about what actions were being performed with Jetpack when this error occurred? Specifically, it would be helpful to know if this happened during a particular task or after a recent change or update to your site.

Additionally, could you check and let us know the current memory limit set on your WordPress site? You can find this information by going to “Tools” -> “Site Health” in your WordPress dashboard and selecting the “Info” tab. Under the “Server” section, you’ll see the “PHP memory limit.”

Once we have this information, we can guide you through the next steps more accurately. If you prefer not to share some details publicly, feel free to use our private contact form on our support page.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Hi there, @foxglove16,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!

    Hi there

Sorry I missed your first reply.

The easy part of your questions to answer is that the PHP Memory Limit is 1024M.

Your other question is more complicated but I will do my best:

The only part of Jetpack which we actively interact with is the sharing to social media facility, specifically when anyone posts on our site (it is a membership type site) then it is shared on Facebook, so that is most likely what triggered the error message from WordPress.

However I’m confused because although the post sharing to Facebook still appears to be working, I can no longer get access to the sharing settings. When I go to ‘My Jetpack’ then the ‘Social’ (Auto-publish to social media) is shown as being Inactive.

Then I see in www.remarpro.com that there is a separate Jetpack Social plugin which I don’t have downloaded, yet my post sharing to Facebook is still working!

I’d appreciate you help to get to the bottom of this mystery.

    Regards

    Robert

    Hi Gaurav

    The site url is https://aboutdereham.org/

A example of a post which triggered the Jetpack social media sharing to Facebook is https://aboutdereham.org/event/mnfhs-meeting-the-history-of-the-rspca/

    Hi Robert,

Then I see in www.remarpro.com that there is a separate Jetpack Social plugin which I don’t have downloaded, yet my post sharing to Facebook is still working!

I’ll answer this one first. The Jetpack Social feature can be used as part of the main Jetpack plugin (which you do have installed), or as its own standalone plugin, which you saw in the www.remarpro.com plugin repo.

If Social is the only think you’re using, you may wish to remove the full plugin and install the standalone, depending on your preference.

However I’m confused because although the post sharing to Facebook still appears to be working, I can no longer get access to the sharing settings. When I go to ‘My Jetpack’ then the ‘Social’ (Auto-publish to social media) is shown as being Inactive.

That does sound strange. This can happen if you are logged in to a different user account by mistake? Do you think that could be the case here?

    Hi again,

After a bit more investigation, I see that you have this plugin installed: https://toolset.com/home/types-access/. I am wondering if that might be causing some issues related to your user and the permissions.

As a test, would you be able to temporarily turn that plugin off and see if you are able to access the settings for Jetpack Social?

Also, it looks like there are some problems with Jetpack accessing your xmlrpc file:

I took a look, and while your site is publicly accessible, we cannot access your site’s XML-RPC file:

This file is used by Jetpack and other plugins and apps to connect to your site. It must return the following message:

    • XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.

You can see a working example here:

Since your site returns a 406 error for this page, I would recommend that you check the following:

    • Can you see the /xmlrpc.php file at the root of your WordPress installation when accessing your site via FTP? If you don’t, then please try re-installing WordPress. You can do this by going to the Dashboard -> Upgrades page, then click the “Reinstall” button.
    • Do you use any security plugins that may block access to this file? If so, could you try to disable them? You might also want to check your site’s .htaccess file for any rules that might be blocking access to the xmlrpc.php file.
    • Does your hosting provider block access to this file? If you don’t find any plugin that may block access to the file on your site, I would recommend that you get in touch with your host.

Once we are able to access your site’s xmlrpc.php file, please try to reconnect your site:

If you want to learn more details about XML-RPC and how it interacts with Jetpack, you can check out our detailed guide here: https://jetpack.com/support/jetpack-and-xml-rpc

Looking forward to your reply on how it went and then we will check for the Jetpack connection for your site again to check if things started working properly after the above steps. ??

    Hi Emily

I don’t know why but https://aboutdereham.org/xmlrpc.php has started working again.

I found that I had to disconnect and then reconnect my site to my account and then access to the social sharing settings appeared again.

So all is working again. Thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for the update! I checked, and on our end, too, your website is showing as properly connected with Jetpack.

You are all set. Let us know if you have any other questions.
