Hi Guys,

I’ve got several wordpress sites and they have all automatically updated (example: to wordpress version 4.8.2) without any problems (such as breaking plugins and whatnot). I think I’ve been lucky and want to implement a backup plan and manually perform the release updates in a controlled manner VS occurring automatically.

Does this make sense? Am I being over-paranoid? How do other people handle release updates? Can I signup to receive email notifications of these releases?

Thank you for the link. I’ve read it over, but my original question still remains.

I recognize the value in performing updates, but is there no risk of these breaking the site? In that regard, I am surprised that they are turned on automatically. Should I be performing these updates in a development environment and then migrating to production?

It’s best to always keep WP up to date, but yes, you should have a backup system in place just in case.
