Why are WordPress.com users finding it difficult to access my self-hosted website through WordPress Reader?
I’m frustrated that people want to follow my blogs but find it difficult to do so. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

    Hi,

A while ago I posted on the forum that my website was not communicating correctly with WordPress Reader.
Apparently the problem was to do with my site not having a security certificate. I took your advice and have now got one, but my site is having the same problem once again. Please see the latest response on the page below as to what’s happening.

Can you please help as interaction is not happening nowhere near as much as I would like because people just give up going directly to my website. I’m about to give up too.

    Thanks

Overall, I don’t see anything wrong between your site and Jetpack and the WordPress.com Reader.

I also see your latest posts in the Reader: https://d.pr/i/0PK7Dh

Thanks for taking a look James.

Obviously, that suggests to me that not everyone else’s communications between Reader and my site is working properly. Would you agree? If so, I’ll just let it rest.

No, there’s really no such thing as an individual’s connection to Reader and then your site.

There is only one connection, that between Reader and your site, and then everyone sees what Reader has.

Everyone subscribed to your site via the WordPress.com Reader will see what the Reader has at https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/140253175 there is no individual-based deviation from that.

So why are people seeing all this computer code text?

    (@macmanx)

That’s from your Visual Composer plugin, and that’s actually how your posts are when the Visual Composer plugin isn’t running.

We don’t have a way to execute third-party plugins in our Reader, so that’s how your posts appear there.

Thanks for your response James, but one thing just seems to lead to another. I’ve no idea what this means. I’m no computer expert, I just want to run a webpage. I give up.

You’re using the Visual Composer plugin to create content on your site.

Visual Composer is a proprietary system, and we do not have an integration to translate what Visual Composer is providing.

As long as you use Visual Composer, this is how your site will appear in the WordPress.com Reader.

    Thanks for the explanation James.

Bear in mind that I didn’t set the site up, I just use it. It’s a bit like buying a car from the garage and letting them service and repair it. I just want to drive the car.

They used Visual Composer to set everything up and I’ve carried on using it and I can’t see me changing it, even if I could or should.

It strikes me that WordPress Reader isn’t for me, but that’s a shame because I like interacting with other people.
