• I’m not a developer. I run an SEO practice.
In the process of this practice, I have come up with a handful of plug in ideas.

I have a developer and we are in process of development. One of these ideas accesses another commercial services API service. For the process to work, we would need to call this service to bring in data from which user could take action.

    Is this permissible?

The intention is to sell plug in.

    Thanks in advance.

  • The plugins in the WordPress repository must follow these guidelines.
But there are no plugins for sale in the WordPress repository, so those wouldn’t apply.

I’m not sure I completely understand, but I would very carefully read – and maybe have a lawyer verify – the other commercial service’s terms and conditions. I would also consider putting a free version of your future plugin in the WP repository. You can still charge for a premium version with more and better features.

    Thanks.

The API is set up for commercial use – so not worried too much about that.

But you confirmed what I was thinking which is that I could put a more feature limited but still value free version in WP and then offer a premium version through upgrade.
