• I have been working on a Photolog which uses WordPress and would really like to know what people think of it. The features of this Photolog include:
    – XHTML compliant code
    – Simple once click addition of photos, auto thumbnail and resizing
    – Extraction of EXIF information from original photo and saved as meta
    – Easy installation, as easy as installing WordPress
    – Simple, clean design and look
    – Simple navigation
I still have some more work to get the archives and the paged navigation work correctly, but here is Pictorialis – My new Photolog.
This code and template will be shared once it is ready.

  • okay, so off I go installing again ??

Nothing to do with the Photoblog, just a reminder to people that if you don’t want the all-seeing, all-caching Google (and similar) copying your images for all to see, put a ‘robots.txt’ in the main photoblog directory.
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /
Write that in Notepad, save as ‘robots.txt’, upload.
It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s better than nothing.

I got the new files, and tried again, no luck with various 1600*1200 files, had luck with a 1024*768.
LL : could you please do something about the 1600*1200 ? I know its too much of an ask, but my camera saves them in that size, for a reason I don’t want to resize my pics… I am sorry if thats too much work, in that case I understand.

    Give me a few hours….LOL
    Peace

Oh why oh why doesn’t it work for me ? ??
Can some kind soul please try to add this following image to their photolog and let me know if they could add it fine?
I just want to see if it really is a problem with the pic being 1600×1200 , or with the name being .JPG instead of .jpg , or the size of the picture.
    This picture, please.

Ok 2fargon – check out my test site now. Looks fine to me, but I’m not sure what I’m looking for (will re-read the posts in a while).

    ian.

Thanks minimal, clears up a few things for me.
    ??
So I have to change webhosts is what it is !
My attempt at the same led to errors, starting with, not only
Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg: ‘/tmp/phpXMm3V2’ is not a valid JPEG file in /homepages/28/d87330634/htdocs/pic/wp-admin/post.php on line 38
Warning: imagesx(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /homepages/28/d87330634/htdocs/pic/wp-admin/post.php on line 60
and the results are at my photolog, if I can call it one!
Anyways, its a 1and1.com server, I will try on a different server next time.

Hmm, odd. Looking at your phpinfo.php output it shows that the max file size for upload is 20MB, so that’s not an issue. Going further down to the gd section, you (ok, 1and1.com) are using 1.6.2 and I used 2.0 so I wonder if it’s just a case if the calls to gd doing something odd ?
I’m not sure – not used the gd extentions enough to be anything other than dangerous…

    ian.

1.6.2 is listed as “ancient” on freshmeat!!
I have requested 1and1 to upgrade gd. Lets see what happens.

Thank you LL. It works for me nevertheless. I will have to implement my blog layout onto my ‘Pictorialis’ later.

There is a new version of Pictorialis out which fixes a couple of issues that were brought up with the Beta and you can download it from https://weblogtoolscollection.com/b2-img/pictorialis.zip
    Fixes for this version include:
    – Built in EXIF support which does not need pre-compiled EXIF in PHP
    – There is a selection mechanism for versions of GD which makes sure you always get the best possible thumbnails and pictures conversion.
    – This also has some file upload fixes which makes sure that the uploaded files do not get erased before the script gets a chance to grab the files.
    – The installation process has also been better defined with some fixes for the installation troubles reported from the previous version.
As in the pervious version, this new version has the following features:
    – XHTML compliant code
    – Simple once click addition of photos, auto thumbnail and resizing
    – Extraction of EXIF information from original photo and saved as meta
    – Easy installation, as easy as installing WordPress
    – Simple, clean design and look
    – Simple navigation
My example PhotoBlog with WordPress can be found at Pictorialis

    I ran into some errors.
I’m one of those that is using the non-exif early version of Pictorialis. After numberous time of trying to figure what to do/fix with the new version’s errors, I went back to the non-exif version.
Which errors? I forgot to copy them. ?? Got frustrated.

Try it one more time, I made some more changes ??
I am really sorry that I caused you this much frustration.
    Peace

LL: I tried again, and the post.php file has your upload dir where you tried to create a temp upload dir in the server, and a few other small things, which I fixed, but finally I got the same error as before. I seem to have a upper-limit on the physical dimensions of the pic I try to upload going. No problems though, peace. I just wanted to help out as a beta tester, thats all. I am never good with photologs, taking the picture is okay, transferring pics to my comp is not, and uploading it? Absolutely not. Too lazy. ??

    2fargon,
    Hehe, you sound like me.
I’m good with the eyes. I like to design and all, but php? I have no clues. Well…maybe here and there but I rather do what I do best. Hehe.
    Thank you LL.
I’ll have a run this weekend.
