WordPress page as a launchpad

  • I would like to have a private page which acts as a launchpad. I want to display RSS, Twitter, and other sources and information as I think of it.

    I realize that info like that is usually displayed in the sidebar, but I want the full page to be taken up it.

    Several questions.

    Is it possible to add widgets to one page and not have them on the main site?
    Assuming it is…

    Can I stack widgets on the page, assuming that the whole page is set up for widget use?

    Is there a theme where the whole page is widgetized? Is it easy to alter a theme to let an area have a widget added?

    Is it possible to make the page theme completely different from the rest of the site? How would I do that?

    Does anyone know of any examples where a wordpress installation or page has been set up like this, to allow it to be a launchpad/portal for a variety of different data sources?

    Yes.

    I don’t know off hand, but probably.

    Yes.

    Yes. Create a new template and edit the PHP/html and the CSS associated with it to get whatever look you want. Then add a new page via Pages->Add New using your new template. Then set that page as the Home page via Setting->Reading Static home page.

    Basically, you need to look up creating and editing WP themes.

    Hmm that’s what I thought. I will design a completely widgetized theme then, kinda like the admin dashboard or google personalized homepage.

    Honestly, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen such a theme but I cannot remember the name of it.

    I know its been a while, but any news on the subject?
