• I really don’t know what the “This topic is not a support question” checkbox means when submitting a question on a forum in the “support” section of www.remarpro.com .

Is it about not being a question? If so, is a suggested bug-fix “not a support question”?

Or is it about not being related to support? In which case, why is the question here (in the “support” section of the site) and what will happen differently if you check this box?

Could someone enlighten me, so I can try to come up with better wording?

  • Umm…could be someone wants to request for a new feature or hire the plugin developer? Something like that.

    Nothing. In general, it’s ignored.

As to why it’s there, uh, yeah….. ??

    Feature request, yes.

Trying to contact an author or anyone for paid work? No. Any topics about paid work or even hired work get closed when found. That isn’t a topic for this site.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Jan ( @jdembowski ) is it the case that nothing different happens to it and it’s ignored? If so why is the checkbox there?

I already presumed that no-one who posts against guidelines would also check a box indicating that they were posting against guidelines :-)))

when I said “it’s ignored”, I didn’t mean the post. I meant that most people don’t look at whether it’s a support question or not.

Sometime people want to ask plugin or them authors questions about the plugin that isn’t about support.

“Do you plan to support feature X,Y,Z?”
“Will there be REST API support for your plugin?”
“Do you plan to make a multi-column option in your theme?”
    “Will your plugin support Gutenberg?”

Things like that are not a support topic but still valid topics here. ??

Also resolved support topics show up on plugin pages.

But topics listed as “Not a support question” do not show up in that calculation.

Ah. OK, got it. Thanks for the patient explanation.

Could it then instead say the following?

This is not a support question (and won't be counted in the resolved statistics)

It would make it much clearer as to why you should click it.

p.s. @jdembowski The spam post in this thread that was removed (which appeared in my email notifications) also added a tag to the thread (“celebrity style”). I wondered what that post was about — now I know: it’s really tag spamming.

    Tag spamming? Fixed. ??
