WordPress multisite subdomain site doesn't exist

I have done seemingly everything right. I have multisite installed live and the subdomain sites don’t work. I have only done one to test and it doesn’t show up online it says “Sorry, the page you were looking for does not exist or is not available.” I have hostgator and wildcard domain set up. I edited the htc access and wp config exactly as wordpress has asked after allowing multisite. What am i to do? The main site works perfectly and was initially installed as a normal installation. It shows up as a multisite installation but once again the actual subdomain sites don’t work.
