WordPress Multilingual

Hello,
What Iam looking after with my wordpress site is that people can choose a language, and then the domain url will change for example to JP.mydomain.com, and everything will be automatically translated.

Now Iam aware that every wordpress plugin that does this job is not FREE.

Is there another way to make this happen? perhaps without a plugin? perhaps with a free script that isnt wordpress related?
