WordPress MU Installation question

  • Hi people

    I have a WordPress blog on a domain, say xxx.com

    Now I want to make more blogs in the domain, such as xxx.com/xxx

    I was looking to install WordPress MU, but will it be safe to upload it to my root directory knowing that a blog is already in the root?

  • You should install WPMU at the root. That way, you can create blogs in subdomain (good with domain mapping) or subdirectories (or folders) – structure will depend on your requirements but also server config.
    You will have to delete your single WP install currently in the root but only after you export XML and backup files and SQL of your single WP install.
    Then you import the XML of your old blog into either
    1) main blog of WPMU in root or
    2) sub-blog of WPMU either in subdomain or subdirectory.
