• I am trying to move a wordpress site (to godaddy) and in addition move it out of a wordpress folder to the root. I changed the URL as instructed under moving wordpress within your site. When I move it to the new server, it says it can’t find the database. Where is the database? How do I move it? The old host has been extremely difficult to get information out of. I only have permissions inside of the wordpress folder (hence the hosting change).

Please help. I have surgery tomorrow and have to get this resolved tonight as I’ve broken the old site by changing the URL. The documentation makes it all seem like it should be so easy.

I am not sure what other information to provide, let me know and I will provide it.

  • You need to check “Moving WordPress” article and check out two options available to you for “Suppose you accidentally moved the files before you changed the URIs: you have two options.”

After you’ve fixed that, in old install go to dashboard – Tools > Export – All, and save that XML file to computer. Do not delete anything from old install yet. In new installation, Tools > Import – WordPress WXR and upload that XML you saved in computer. In next panel CHECK option to include media attachments from posts.
