wordpress links on facebook dont work

any link i post on facebook will not show up with info or thumbnail, i only get the link in the info.
when i use facebook debug tool i get the following error: Error parsing input URL, no data was scraped
a lot of visitors from other countries complain that they can not open the page that they get an error message. i get a similar error message if i try to run a online check for the site: 500 Can’t connect to:80 (Bad hostname
i dont have any trouble visiting the site but lots of other do and when i check to see if the site is down (after i know i can get on) i frequently get the message that the site is down from online site checks like this one:

i’ve tried uninstalling all plugins and updated and reinstalling wordpress several times…no luck with anything
