• Hi all together,

I am frustrated after about 10 hoer trying to fix my problem. Hopefully you can help me ??

    My Problem:
after the installation of WordPress on my local machine, the themes are not shown correctly. This is the case for the standard 20’16 to 20’19 themes and for all other themes I tried. The location of the buttons are different than they should be. And except for the 20’17 theme, all the themes are shown without images.

    My installation steps:
I have installed WordPress locally on macOS Mojave. I strictly didn’t want to use MAMP or anything like that, because the OS already comes with Apache Webserver and I wanted to keep the system clean. So this is how I proceed:
    – activate the apache server and php
    – install MySQL
    – install phpMyAdmin
    – create new Database with UTF8_general_ci Kollektion for WordPress
    – copy the WordPress-folder into the localhost directory
    – open localhost/wordpress on safari-browser
    – setup the mySQL data
    – start WordPress after successful installation without any errors

    My background
I have already installed and used WordPress on Webservers without any issues in the past. Also the combination of windows with XAMPP was always successful. This is how I remember that the themes has to look quite different. Of course I also tried to search the web. But nothing worked and I event don’t know what to search for anymore.

    So PLEASE help me ??

    Some Screenshots:

The first tree shots show the standard WordPress themes and the last one is the famous Hestia theme.

What specifically is wrong? When you say the themes are not shown correctly, are you referring to the admin screen? Or each theme has a problem on the front end? Is there a problem in common to them all?

Your screenshots make it look as if WordPress is running. Is there any data in the database? What version of WordPress did you install?

    Hi Joy,
thank you for your quick reply.

The problem is, that all the themes I tried look much more different than the preview. For example the 20’16 and the 20’19 themes have a menu bar on the upper area in the preview. As it can be seen on my sceenshots, my wordpress doesn.t show that. And the hestia theme looks fully different than mine. I have attached some screenshots of how the themes should normaly look like.

I have installed the newest wordpress version. And there is also some data in the database.

On my previews installation on other platforms, this was not the case. The themes were shown as in the preview.

I would be grateful for any advice ??

    Hi,
Your themes are not looking the same because the Demo content(Images and text) is missing. You should download the demo content and after that, you can see the change.

For more details check this link: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-add-dummy-content-for-theme-development-in-wordpress/

Exept from the content, at least the position of the buttons has to be set correctly by the theme. I also wonder that the images can be found on the harddist in the wordpress folder. But they are not shown on the website.

Could there be something wrong with CSS or something like that?

The theme author has a little leeway in how the screenshot looks. They are allowed to differ from the default settings, but the user should be able to achieve what is in the screenshot easily.
Some provide the image in the screenshot with the theme, and others use it only for the screenshot.
One of the things that many theme authors do is disable the fallback menu. I have argued with many theme authors over this, but they continue to code their theme this way (even on Twenty Nineteen I argued for a fallback menu).
If you Customize the theme, then you can make it look like the screenshot, and it will remain that way until you change the settings.
I think theme authors should choose better defaults if the screenshot doesn’t match, but they don’t often listen to me.
