    Hi there,

I’m at my wit’s end with this problem. I have two installs of wordpress on the same server, running two websites with the same theme. On one, everything is fine, but on the other, no matter what I try, every time I upload my images, which are 1000px on the long edge, the media uploader changes the images to 1200px and completely wrecks the compression.

I’ve tried all sorts of disabling plugins and options, and nothing seems to stop it.

Any help would be really appreciated

    Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to mention – it other instances, it retains the original dimensions, but STILL makes the image bigger. It says it’s 1000px in the sidebar, but it’s displaying the image almost twice the size when I click on it.

This is what I’m talking about. I upload the image, and then WordPress just makes it bigger for no reason. The image on the left is the original dimensions

    Hi@leave12,
Hava a nice day! It sounds like the WordPress media settings or the theme is resizing your images during the upload process. Let’s troubleshoot and resolve this step by step:

Step 1: Check Image Size Settings in WordPress

    1. Go to Settings > Media in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Check the sizes for Thumbnail, Medium, and Large images.
    3. Ensure that none of these dimensions exceed your desired 1000px limit.
    4. Set the Large size to 1000px (or smaller) if it is currently set to 1200px.

Step 2: Check Theme-Specific Image Settings

    1. Some themes override the default WordPress image sizes.
      • Go to your theme options or customizer (Appearance > Customize) and look for image-related settings.
    2. If your theme allows you to define custom image sizes, set the dimensions to your preferred size.

If you’d like, share more details (e.g., theme name, plugins in use) and I can refine the solution further! ??

    HI there,

Thanks for replying, but that’s not a solution to my problem. What if I need to upload a file bigger than 1000px? I just want WordPress to stop deciding that it knows better than me about how to display my images – I just want it to display the images at the resolution I have set.

I’d put all my media settings to zero, because I hoped that would stop the problem, but it didn’t work. That’s the last thing I tried before coming here.

There’s nothing in my theme that allows me to change anything related to image sizes

Just to add, I changed large size to 1000px, and it’s making absolutely no difference. Even when uploading through the media section, it displays the dimensions as 800×1000 pixels in the info section, but it still displays the image at almost twice the size, even in the media browser that’s independent of the theme

    @leave12

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please share the URL of your info section? Perhaps you’ve added a custom size via CSS there..

    Thank you
