• I’ve been having a serious issue with WordPress for weeks. I can never stay logged in. No matter what browser I use, I can never stay logged into wordpress’ admin panel. I’ll spend 10 – 15 minutes writing a post and hit “publish” or “save” and then bam, it takes me back to the login page and I lose everything and have to start over if wordpress hasn’t automatically created a draft. This happens randomly but it occurs multiple times during a span of one day. I find myself retyping my password at least a couple of times per hour. It’s pretty annoying.

I’ve cleared my cache, cookies, everything. Didn’t work.

I uninstalled firefox, rebooted my comp and reinstalled firefox. Didn’t work.

I even created a new profile and basically started my firefox from scratch. Didn’t work.

So I used Safari to see if it was a firefox issue. Didn’t work.

What the heck is going on and can anyone help?

    Thanks!

  • I’m having the same problem with 2.9 and it’s exTREMEly annoying. I spent about 2 hours just trying to make a post.

I had a similar problem after installing the wp-postratings plugin on WP 2.9.1.

I change the “Ratings Logging Method” top IP only instead of IP and cookies, and it solved the problem.

Don’t know if it could help, but in my case, it had something to do with cookies.

    Version 2.9.1 and still happening.
I have had many different problems, including being logged out while posting and being logged in in the dashboard but logged out in the page at the same time.

dont spose anyone has found a fix for this yet? now on 2.9.2 and its still happening…HUMMM

I’ve never had this problem with any version or WP starting back before 2.0 and I’m pretty sure it is not a very common problem or there would be a lot more complaints on the forum so I have to think it is something peculiar about your setups– maybe a particularly strict server level session timeout for example, or possibly overloaded servers. Unfortunately, hardly anyone in this thread has provided any useful information. Feeling around the web blindly though I found curiously similar problem with sites GoDaddy servers.

    I’m having the same problem.

Do any of you run the RPX plugin, which allows people to login w/ facebook or twitter credentials? I am, and I thought maybe it had to do with that?

Here is a list of the plugins I am using. Anybody see any similarities with their setups?

I am having the same issue, I searched around and found a site that said to disable any custom 404 forwarding which seems to have stopped the logging out but now I can’t use the custom 404 page when we have a whole new layout and many links are broken

Does anyone know how to add an exception for whatever page the admin menu is trying to save / forward to that seems to be hitting the 404 page?

If you have this issue, check that you don’t have any extra trailing slashes added to your URL’s. E.g. like in https://www.mysite.com//wp-admin/post.php%3Faction%3Dedit%26post%3D779%26message%3D10 after mysite.com

I have this issue on 2.9.2 and it’s driving me insane. It seems like I get logged out after viewing a few pages in the admin. Happened in 2.9.1 before I upgraded too.

    Same problem with 2.9.2

    I too am having this.
Two seperate WP installs hosted on the same machine, (eg sharing PHP, mysql, network route, etc are identical between the two.) same wordpress version (2.9.2), pretty much the same plugins, same theme.

One keeps me logged in the whole time.
The other drops my login anytime I visit the main page space.
    – If I stay within the admin screens I will remain logged in, but any attempt to view a post or page (including the main page) outside the admin console logs me out. This issue suddenly started sometime in the last two weeks.

Disabling all plugins does not resolve this. Cleaning the browser cache has no effect. Nothing appears in the server logs. It’s very confusing.
Edit1; It is browser independent; identical behaviour on both Firefox/Fedora12 and IE8/WindozeXP.
Edit2; Server is a FreeBSD 7.3 box with PHP 5.2.12.

I just started having the exact same problesm a couple days ago.. sometimes it even tells my admin user it does not have permission to make changes.

The only thing I can think that changed for me was it was right after I installed google connect but I am not sure..

it is VERY annoying. but at least I feel better that it is not just me

Does anyone have a fix or know what it could be?

Me too. It was working fine at 2 am this this morning, then I go to log in this afternoon and I can’t do anything, I just keep getting redirected back to the log-in page…. I am not happy, I have been a WP user for all of a week and I seem to be spending more time on the forums searching for answers to fix bugs than I am actually creating my site.

Bring back Blogger, all is forgiven !!

not sure what happened… and I haven’t changed anything significant.. but it is now working correcly and NOT logging me out

    very strange indeed!

Hope everyone elses is back to normal too.

Ok, well I solved the problem on my site, a mistake on my part:

In the general settings for the affected blog I had set the ‘WordPress address (URL)’ and the ‘Blog address (URL)’ differently, the first was the short URL (without a www. at the front), and the second had the full URL (www.mydomain.com). In fact I intended the whole blog to be at the second (long) form of the address, and I have a apache config to do a ‘premanent redirect’ on the short URL that redirects it to the long form.

I assume the two were interacting, and the cookies used to track the login were being set with the wrong domain info, causing a missmatch and preventing them from being used to maintain the login. Setting the two domains in the General Setting identically cured the problem for me.
