WordPress just “Quit Working after almost a Year”

  • I have a VERY IMPORTANT site that I have had online for almost a year and it worked flawlessly.
    When I brought it up this morning this is the page I got.

    Can’t select database

    We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the acaby_blog database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?

    I have not done anything to the db to warrent this.
    I ran a check and repair on the db in mysql databases and it all showed OK.

    I checked phpmyadmin and the db was there and all the tables looked fine.

    Could this be a problem with my hosts software?

    This one has really got me stumped and ANY help would be appreciated.

  • Not sure but…

    (1) What version of WordPress?

    (2) Have you checked to make sure your wp-config file is still alright? I don’t know any reason it would change, but it’s what tells WP the name of your DB.

    It sounds like something is going on with your host and not the site. I seem to remember something similar happening to me a while ago. Check the status of your host server.

    Thanks for the replies Dgold and Rashunda.

    I am using WP 2.0.4 (upgraded everytime a new version of wp was available)
    I checked the wp-config and nothing has changed. As I said before it has been online for almost a year, worked flawlessly then sat am i logged on and #@$$%** –

    I tend to agree with you Rashunda because I did not do anything that would cause this to happen. I sent a trouble ticket to my host sat am but no response yet.

    What has really got me confused as I have another copy of wp with a different db_name on another blog, same server,same domain, and it is working fine. ?? go figure—
