I just installed WordPress 3.0 only a few days ago, yet WordPress is telling me I must install the latest version before I can log in.

Do I have to update, or is there a was around this.

I’ve heard of some people loosing their blogs after updating, and I don’t want to take the chance.

    Thanks

WordPress doesn’t do that. You never *have* to update, although it is a good idea.

Perhaps you have a plugin or something else blocking you?

I have never had any version of WordPress prevent me from logging in until I update, and I don’t think I can remember ever having an update notice appear anywhere other than in the dashboard after I was logged in.

You don’t have to update until you want to. I believe 3.0.1 is intended as a maintenance (bug fix) release.

The notice actually said “WordPress has to update your Database”

Ahhh… that’s something that usually needs to be done right after you upgrade the WordPress files. I had to do that as well. A normal part of upgrading. Not necessarily every time, mind you… but usually.

    O.K., now I see.

It caused me some concern at first, because I had just clicked on a link I found in a spam post on another site.

    Anyway,

I went ahead updated the database, which took like 1/2 a second, so far so good. I can log in and the site is running fine.
